This Girl Got Guts: More than a Jar

Read: Luke 7:36-48

There is something different when we come to Christ and bring to him an offering out of the produce of our bodies. In this scripture, the woman offered:

  • her tears that washed Christ's feet
  • her hair that dried his feet
  • her lips that kissed Jesus' feet
The only thing that she offered that wasn't a part of her was the alabaster jar.

Can you see the redundancy of the words "his feet"? Now I ask, does Christ's feet needs to be cleaned that time? What good would it give him if she didn't do it anyway? Do you think God pitied her because of her tears? I believe not. You see, we can cry without love, kiss without love, nor sing songs without having the heart of worship. It can be pure emotion that is present now and absent in a few minutes. Yes you can do an act like what the woman has done. But what made hers an "extravagant worship"?

If your answer is "the alabaster jar", well your correct. Action speaks louder than words. What was she saying when this expensive oil was being poured? I believe she was TOTALLY READY to give it ALL up!

Today, its like having a closet of Victoria's Secret perfume, opening it all up and pouring it into the pool! Can you do that? This lady was so bold that she cared not of what others would think of her (during and after the scene). Read the scripture and see her grand entrance in this "all men gathering". She really got the spotlight.

Have you ever thought "what if she cried on the wrong person"? Like a false prophet, or just a great teacher and not The Messiah. What would be the ending of the story then?.... DOOM! Napagod lang siya. Sayang... But did she had second thoughts? No. Her boldness brought her to God's ultimate forgiveness. All of her crying was not in vain.

Nevertheless, Christ won't notice her if she acted normal. She thought extravagantly but in simplicity. She could have waited for the gathering to end. But she became aggressive and hungry for truth which led her to public apology. She exposed herself.

Another thing I see dramatic here was Christ's response. He exposed his comforting love to her. He did not let the woman be laughed at. He did not leave her empty handed. He protected him :)

The Challenge:
Try to be in the woman's shoes. Are you ready to give up your fame, fortune, or priceless possessions into His feet? :)
